This course examines time as a deeply suspicious construct and explores why humans insist on moving through it in a straight line. Students will investigate how people begin small, become complicated, and eventually develop strong opinions about lighting, temperature, and other people’s music.

Special attention is given to moments when everything feels normal until it suddenly does not. Topics include the illusion of having things figured out, the recurring belief that next year will be calmer, and the universal experience of realizing too late that something important already happened.

By the end of the course, students will be able to identify patterns they were certain were unique, recognize that most confusion is age appropriate, and articulate why everyone else seemed to get a manual they somehow missed. Course does not promise answers. It does promise recognition.
