102686 - Dissertation I (2022/FA:EDUC-791-01)

This first course of a two-semester dissertation sequence prepares students in developing, organizing, and completing their dissertation in practice at Lee University. Specifically, this research-based seminar assists students in the completion of Chapter 1 (introduction, statement of the problem, purpose of the study, research questions, hypothesis, definitions of key terms, limitations of the study) and Chapter 3 (research design, population/sample, instrumentation, procedures, data analysis plan, ethical considerations, the role of the researcher, the selection of participants, methodology and rationale, issues of trustworthiness). It is anticipated that this seminar will advance student’s development as a scholar-practitioner through the assessment of researchable questions in K-12 education and/or higher education settings, resulting in a dissertation in practice proposal. Upon successful completion of the course, students will have drafted, organized, and finalized their introduction (Chapter 1) and methods & methodology (Chapter 3) sections for initial review to their proposed dissertation chair.
