97029 - Inclusion/Diversity in Class (2022/SP:EDUC-562-01)

This course seeks to provide students an opportunity to examine diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts and initiatives in K-12 education. Effective teaching in today’s public and private classrooms requires teachers to be flexible and creative problem solvers. In order to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population, teachers must learn how to adapt instruction and to be facilitators of student learning. Teachers must model belief in the innate importance of each learner who are exceptional, diverse, and at risk. This course develops these skills in examining special populations in K-12 education including students with disabilities, students of color, low-income students, students in foster care, as well as gifted and talented students.
