115312 - Higher Education Environments (2023/FA:HEDS-500-01)

The purpose of this course is to give a comprehensive overview of higher education in America and to explore the contemporary system which exists today, with special attention to Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) institutions. To be highly informed, student affairs practitioners and higher education professionals need to understand the complexities inherent in Christian colleges and universities. The goal of this course revolves around helping students comprehend conflicting perspectives related to Christian higher education and develop a critical perspective needed to appropriately analyze them. The course will emphasize the evolution of Christian colleges and universities and the characteristics of CCCU member institutions.

It is important to note that this course will not cover topics related to student development, student engagement, or student success. Students interested in this topic should enroll in the HEDS 514 College Student Development course at Lee.
